Preparing Wool to Create Navajo Rug
The traditional way of weaving a Navajo rug requires that the wool be spun into a ball of yarn. Once the wool have been sheared from the sheep. Then it will be spin into fine threaded wool strings or yarn. This is a time consuming process to spin the wool into a yarn using the Spindle tool as seen in this picture. There are dark wools and lighter color wools that are separted into yarns. Then the weaver can apply colors to the wool by picking certain plants and herbs on the land. Then after they have picked certain plants and herbs then it is boiled in a pot with the ball of yarn. The weaver has to get the sheer the wool, spinning the wool into yarn, and apply color to the wool yarn in order to create an authentic Navajo rug.
